Oranges probably originated in Southeast Asia and were cultivated in China by 2500 BC. The fruit of Citrus sinensis is called sweet orange to distinguish it from Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange. Orange peel granules are prepared from fresh orange peel which has been washed, trimmed, diced, dried, and milled into granules. Orange peel comes from the thick skin of bitter oranges. The peel has a sweet taste and aroma in contrast to the pulp of the bitter orange.
